Sam Ehlinger 2021 NFL Draft Profile

For those who have been reading the site for a while already know I think Sam Ehlinger sucks. I’ve thought that for a long time now. If you think Sam Ehlinger is a real NFL quarterback, seek help. We’re going to do the best we can here offering an assessment of the Texas quarterback. Here is your Sam Ehlinger 2021 NFL Draft profile.

The Texas signal caller checks in at 6-foot-1, 220. If you want to take any positive here, Ehlinger basically has four years of starting experience. There are a lot of games under his belt. Ehlinger has a thick body and can definitely pick up yardage with his leg.

That’s where the positives end. Ehlinger BARELY completed 60% of his throws which is just a complete and utter joke playing in a conference like the Big 12. They beg you to score. You don’t even have to try. The fact that Ehlinger has such pedestrian numbers in the no defense Big 12 should tell you basically all you need to know.

I’ve comped Ehlinger to Tim Tebow in the past. Zero feel for the passing game, Below average arm strength, improper quarterback footwork leading to poor accuracy, and holding onto the ball too long. The only difference is Tebow had way more talent than Ehlinger. Tebow could at least play in college. Ehlinger should have been benched for about four years in a row.

The saddest part is that’s true. Texas got rid of the wrong guy. Shane Buechele tore it up at SMU and clearly proved he was more talented. Better yet, Ehlinger got hurt in the bowl game against Colorado. Casey Thompson stepped in and immediately went 8-10 with four touchdowns leading Texas to a 55-23 win. That’s what the Big 12 is supposed to look like. Now do we see why the Sam Ehlinger hype train is so laughable?

Ehlinger has a funky elongated release and basically has zero ability to hit any semblance of a deep ball. His arm isn’t built to make NFL throws. Point blank, it’s that simple. There’s no twitch in Ehlinger’s game. He has no elite traits.

Ehlinger was so bad at the Senior Bowl I gave up writing about him. That was to be expected, of course. It’s just a waste of time to write anything about a guy who has no real sustainable future as an NFL starting quarterback.

I don’t have Sam Ehlinger ranked on my list of top quarterbacks for the 2021 NFL Draft. Truthfully, he’s probably not draftable. I wouldn’t even bring him on my 90 man roster for camp. If a worse version of Tim Tebow tickles your fancy, knock yourself out. I’ll pass.
