Rasmus Dahlin is a very rich man. The former number one overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft had a mini breakout season a year ago. His efforts have since been rewarded. The Sabres top end blue liner has been rewarded with a mega contract.
The Sabres team account was the first to report the news. Dahlin will ink an extension with Buffalo for eight-years at $88 million. The $11 million AAV will make him the second highest paid defensemen in the sport just behind Erik Karlsson.
“I love the city. I love the team. I love everything,” Dahlin said.
General Manager Kevyn Adams already had a presser regarding the news. You can watch that below if it tickles your fancy.
“This is a really exciting day for us,” general manager Kevyn Adams said, per NHL.com’s Heather Engel. “We have a player in his prime years that’s committing to this organization for the max term that you can.”
Dahlin, 23, is coming off his best season notching career highs in goals (15), assists (58), points (73), power-play points (32), shots (204), and average ice time (25:48). Dahlin is expected to be a contender for the Norris Trophy for a very long time.
Buffalo hasn’t made the playoffs in 12 years. Locking up a young star was a step in the right direction. That streak may just come to an end in 2023-24.
Congrats to Dahlin on the big contract. He just has one more thing to worry about. He’s gotta tell Connor Clifton that he doesn’t get any. Read this post for more context.
