Ryan Ramczyk Signs Massive Extension With Saints
Somehow the cap-strapped Saints are signing players. Ryan Ramczyk and the Saints have agreed to a five-year deal worth $96 million, per Ian Rapoport. This makes Ramczyk the highest-paid right tackle in football.
Adam Schefter of ESPN says that the deal includes $60 million in guaranteed money and corrects an earlier statement of the deal being worth $90 million. Ramczyk’s extension is worth $96 million, and everyone is on the same page now.
Ryan Ramczyk was selected in the first round at pick 32 by the New Orleans Saints in the 2017 NFL Draft. This draft class was an amazing one for the Saints, although recently, they haven’t repeated this performance. They also landed Marshon Lattimore, Marcus Williams, Alvin Kamara, and Trey Hendrickson in the 2017 draft. Most players from this draft class have received nice paydays, whether it be via free agency, a franchise tag, or extension, this class is being paid very well after their rookie contracts.
Ramczyk has been starting on the offensive line for the Saints since his rookie year, helping to make arguably the best pair of tackles in the NFL with Terron Armstead on the left side. The Saints know how to do one thing, protect their quarterback.
It’s unclear how the Saints can make this deal and stay under the salary cap. I’m sure there is a lot of creative structuring with a nice signing bonus to give Ramczyk some cash now and spread the cap hit out over the entirety of his contract.
