Russell Wilson Already LOVES DK Metcalf

Russell Wilson already LOVES DK Metcalf and had high praise for his rookie wide receiver (Dean Rutz/Seattle Times)

One of the steals in the 2019 NFL Draft, in my opinion, was DK Metcalf. While Metcalf may be the biggest boom or bust player in the draft, the risk vs reward in the back end of the 2nd round is one worth taking. Thus far, Seattle loves what they are seeing from the former Ole Miss wide receiver. He has been lighting it up at minicamp.

Russell Wilson gave Metcalf rave reviews:

“Well, it’s great seeing DK make his plays,” Wilson told reporters on Wednesday. “I think DK is looking really, really special. He can do anything and everything and he’s tremendous.”

From everything I’ve seen and been reading, Metcalf can’t be guarded. He’s killing people. Below are a couple of videos I found.

This isn’t the first time the Seahawks have been foaming at the mouth at Metcalf. Pete Carroll had similar remarks during rookie camp. Metcalf has big shoes to fill with Doug Baldwin retiring via multiple injuries. This is the Metcalf and Tyler Lockett show. Chris Carson is a reliable running back but tight end and wide receiver spots remain big question marks heading into the season. Are Lockett and Metcalf more than just deep ball guys?

I have to be fair and admit there are some red flags with Metcalf. His limited college production and scary injury history is worrisome. I’m not saying lighting up camp means everything but it’s a hell of a start. Now the question is whether Brian Schottenheimer is going to actually put the ball in Russell Wilson’s hands and stop pretending he’s Dak Prescott. That’s another story for a different day. The good news in Seattle is Metcalf looks fantastic and he needs to in order for this offense to remain/become explosive.
