Roger Goodell backs up NFL Officiating

Goodell says officiating has never been better after questionable reffing this season

With all the complaints in officiating this season, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says that it has never been better in the league, according to theScore.

After some questionable calls this season in multiple games like Colts vs. Vikings and Bengals vs. Chiefs, Goodell has finally made comments on the officiating this season.

“I don’t think it’s ever been better in the league,” Goodell said, via theScore. “There are over 42,000 plays in a season. Multiple infractions could occur on any play. … That’s hundreds, if not millions, of potential fouls. Our officials do an extraordinary job of getting those.

“Are there mistakes in the context of that? Yes, they are not perfect and officiating never will (be),” Goodell said, via theScore.

Well, in a sense, Goodell does have a point that there are thousands of plays across each season. No one is perfect, but when a team gets a complete do over on a play or multiple blown calls that happen in back-to-back drives, it seems fishy to me. Also, when a former NFL player like Arian Foster comes out and admits the NFL is scripted, it gets even worse.

Goodell later goes on to state that replay technology has a big effect on the perception of calls on the field.

“I think we all have to realize through the quality of what we see on our broadcast, you’ve never been able to see the kinds of things that you can see today,” Goodell added, via theScore. “Sometimes that distorts a call potentially, but the reality is our officials are held to an incredibly high standard. Will we try to get better? You betcha.”
