We’re all ready for the Manny Machado sweepstakes to end. The Orioles are the worst team in baseball and have only won a measly 26 games. Their lone superstar, Manny Machado, will become an impending free agent following this season. With virtually no chance to re-sign him, The Orioles are bound to trade Machado before the trade deadline. The Red Sox, Indians, Brewers, Dodgers, Braves, and others have been involved in the talks so far. However, if it’s up to Machado, he would prefer a trade to the New York Yankees. This isn’t much of a surprise from the man who idolized Alex Rodriguez growing up.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today had more on the on-going situation:

“The Yankees have sent an army of scouts to canvass the landscape, with one of the richest farm systems in baseball to spare, but according to club officials and executives familiar with their strategy, they’re having trouble identifying who’s best equipped to get them past the Red Sox.

The Yankees privately say that their interest in Machado is overblown. They’d sure love to have him as a free agent this winter, and Machado has told friends the Yankees are easily his first choice, but to grab Machado now without bolstering their pitching staff makes no sense.”

Pitching remains the Yankees top priority but they might want to consider trading for Machado now. Didi Gregorius has hit under .240 since April. They can also send Miguel Andujar down to AAA if they are dead set on keeping him on the roster. With Gleyber Torres on the DL at the moment, there are plenty of at-bats to go around.

We’re going to find out a lot about Brian Cashman this trade deadline. Will he continue to hoard prospects that will probably never make the roster? New York currently sits 3.5 games out of first place in the AL East.
