After being benched for the final 18 minutes in a recent loss to the Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors slasher Jonathan Kuminga has completely lost faith in head coach Steve Kerr. Shams Charania reports of the news.
Golden State drafted the young forward seventh overall in the 2021 draft, but after being underutilized in three years, Kuminga has had enough. In just his third year in the NBA, Kuminga has only started 70 games and played an average of under 20 minutes.
“(Thursday night) was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” one of the sources said.
The former g league ignite star has shown flashes of potential during his time with Golden State, but Kerr is yet to give him substantial minutes. In just 22 minutes this season, Kuminga is averaging 13 points, four rebounds, and one assist on 51 percent shooting from the field.
The rack-a-tack maniac is one of the few wings that the Warriors aging roster has signed. Kuminga and former first overall pick Andrew Wiggins are being rinsed of time on the floor. The wing duo is combining for under 50 minutes total per night. With the return of Draymond Green, that number will only decrease; potentially to zero.
“Their numbers are not good together, frankly,” Kerr said late last month. “They’re very redundant. So the tape and the numbers haven’t been great. But we recognize, too, that we have a level that we need to get to really compete at the highest level. And if those two guys can coexist on the floor, it does give us an elevated athleticism and elevated potential. But we have to find the right combination of people around those two.”
With only 19 minutes against the defending NBA champions; Denver Nuggets, Kuminga dropped 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists. He would be sitting in the fourth quarter, and Golden State would lose thier lead.
Sitting at 16-18 and 11th in the western conference, the Warriors were just two years away from a NBA championship. But now, their dynasty looks like it’s coming to an end in an explosive manner.
Will Kuminga be traded? Is this the end of the Warriors dynasty? Let us know in the comments down below.
