After helping the Nuggets to their first NBA championship, Reggie Jackson is back in Denver. The veteran point guard is signing a two-year deal worth $10.25 million, as first reported by Shams Charania. Jackson will also be receiving a player option in the second season of his deal.
Although the Denver Nuggets lost Bruce Brown in free agency, they have brought back another key piece to their championship puzzle. Although he could have opted for a bigger deal elsewhere, Jackson chose to stay in Denver to relive his championship experience.
“I finally got something I’ve been chasing,” Jackson told ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk after the Nuggets won the title. “It took a while.”
Safe to say, Jackson is quite happy in where he is at in the NBA.
The Denver Nuggets have all the capabilities in the world to run it back, but it wouldn’t be possible without Jackson and their other role players. Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr, Brown and Reggie Jackson were all significant assets in Denver’s championship run.
Although his numbers have decreased with age and opportunity, Jackson remains a valuable piece on any NBA team. During the regular season, Jackson averaged eight points per game on 38% shooting. He would add on three assists per game as well as two rebounds a night. Jackson did this all in just under 20 minutes a night.
With Brown out of the picture now, Jackson will probably see a lot more minutes for the Nuggets. He will become the backup point guard for Jamal Murray who just came off a very impressive playoff run — one that could have won him Finals MVP.
