Alex DeBrincat is coming home. It became pretty clear that DeBrincat wasn’t going to re-sign with the Senators and a trade felt inevitable. The Farmington Hills native will return to the state of Michigan after the Red Wings pulled off a trade for the left wing sniper.
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet was the first to report the news:
DeBrincat will be traded to Detroit. Again, im not sure of the package….will not be a long, long-term extension Im told. 4-5 years, I think.

Yes, DeBrincat is undersized but this is a player with serious offensive skill. A really underrated passer and someone that can really put the puck in the back of the net. DeBrincat never really found a home in Ottawa. Just too many cooks in the kitchen and never got looks on the first PP unit. However, just one prior, DeBrincat pocked 41 goals on a bad Blackhawks team.
Alex DeBrincat, acquired by DET, is a scoring winger with an excellent track record of creating and finishing dangerous chances at a high level. Coming off an off-season in OTT but no, his scoring wasn't just a product of playign with Kane. Underrated passing too. #LGRW pic.twitter.com/NzeTqBs8dD

There is something to be said for a guy that can just score. The Red Wings needed a guy like this desperately. Detroit had just three players that scored 20 or more goals a year ago. It’s a huge add for a team that has zero guys like this on the roster.
There are some other crucial details that also need to be talked about here. DeBrincat is also signing an extension for 4-years while carrying a $7.875 million AAV.
UPDATE:
Frank Seravalli has reported the full details of the trade.

Interesting that Dominik Kubalik is one of the names involved in the deal. Kubalik was one of the three Red Wings I mentioned early scoring 20 goals last season. I guess a first and Kubalik isn’t a terrible return but it’s a far cry from what they gave up to get DeBrincat from Chicago just a year ago.
