The Red Sox Will Regret Missing Out On Carlos Correa

The Red Sox Will Regret Missing Out On Carlos Correa

Chaim Bloom had an opportunity to save his job and he blew it. The Red Sox still haven’t found a replacement for Xander Bogaerts and they let the perfect solution go by to the small market Minnesota Twins. The Twins swooped in and landed Correa inking the elite shortstop to a six-year deal worth $200 million. Failing to re-sign Bogaerts and or failing to land Correa will come back to be a moment in history the Red Sox regret.

The Red Sox somehow went from Bogaerts and Trevor Story to blank and Christian Arroyo overnight. The news regarding the Story injury should have made Boston desperate to acquire Correa. It was understandable when you saw the original number the Giants were going to hand out. The Giants signed Correa to a monster 13 year deal. The Mets agreement was supposed to be for 12 years. Losing out to those bids was understandable. To allow the Twins to land him on a six year deal should be viewed as embarrassing.

What’s the plan here? Correa would have been a perfect fit in the middle of the order to bat right behind Rafael Devers. Now what? Does that mean Kike Hernandez is your shortstop along with Jarren Duran in centerfield because I’m hashtag out on that plan. There are no obvious names on the free agent market even available. The ones that are aren’t worth trying to carve out a 40 man roster spot for. The Sox might not get a single game out of Story next year.

Unless the Sox find a way to upgrade the club on the trade market, this Sox team isn’t a contender in 2023 and everybody knows it. Landing Carlos Correa would have been a saving grace and they blew it. Just re-signing Rafael Devers was never enough.
