Mets Swoop In And Sign Carlos Correa
I don’t really know what happened. It’s around 6 am and Carlos Correa is now somehow signing with the Mets. We must live in a fairy tale land because fortunate things just don’t happen to the Mets. It’s way too early in the morning for this.
We all thought Correa was heading to the Giants. That was until Correa failed his physical and went back on the open market. Steve Cohen opened his checkbook and got the biggest aircraft carrier on the market.
Alden Gonzalez of ESPN was the first on the news:
“Carlos Correa, in a stunning turn of events, has agreed on a 12-year, $315 million contract with the New York Mets, eschewing a previous 13-year agreement with the San Francisco Giants, a source confirmed to ESPN early Wednesday morning.”
If you have been following me, you know I have been tough on the Mets. Their payroll is now around $380 million and prior to this signing may have had a third place team. Correa is a true aircraft carrier. He changes your floor regardless of who else is on the team. Elite defense and an elite stick too. This is a massive upgrade over Eduardo Escobar. There is no other way to say it.
This is also absolutely brutal for San Francisco Giants fans. Correa in San Fran would have been great for the Dodger rivalry. They also had to go through the nightmare Jon Heyman’s Arson Judge BS that should have gotten him fired. San Francisco has bid on the two mega free agents on the market and missed on both. So brutal for that fan base. Hey, at least they have Mitch Haniger now!
