Rashard Higgins Is Baker Mayfield’s Most Reliable Target?

Baker Mayfield stinks this year. It’s hard to ignore it. Mayfield ranks 32nd in passer rating, 30th in completion percentage, and 2nd in interceptions thrown. Mayfield has been god awful. I’m sorry you didn’t see it coming like I did. However, there is a developing story taking place right now. It’s something the Browns need to start paying attention to.

Mayfield has had no success throwing to Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. When Baker throws to his top two targets, the results look ugly. Mayfield has completed 57 percent of his throws to Odell and Jarvis. When targeting Odell, Mayfield has a 1-3 TD to INT ratio. Landry’s is worse at 2-5 when he gets the ball thrown to him. Those numbers would go down as one of the worst quarterback – wide receiver duos ever.

What if Odell Beckham is part of the problem? What if Jarvis Landry is part of the problem. It’s not like those guys were ever considered winning players in New York or Miami. Maybe Freddie Kitchens is the problem. Well, I should say I know Kitchens is a problem. What if part of the solution is already on the Browns roster?

Chemistry matters in sports. Why should Mayfield feel obligated to “force feed” Odell the ball? Rashard Higgins could be the quiet savior to the Browns offense. Did you know that Baker Mayfield owns a 98.1 QBR when targetting Higgins? Mayfield has been nearly perfect when he throws the ball to Higgins. So… why isn’t he more involved in the offense? Antonio Callaway just got cut so maybe there is hope. However, I find it odd that Higgins has 4 catches on the entire season.

Baker Mayfield Doesn’t Get It

Screw Odell Beckham. Screw Jarvis Landry. Get the ball to Higgins more. That seems to be working. Get the ball to Nick Chubb. That seems to be working. Chubb is averaging 5.3 yards per carry and has been a monster all year. All I know is the Browns aren’t having much success when they constantly target the diva LSU power couple.
