Raiders Owner Mark Davis Believes In Colin Kaepernick

The entire Colin Kaepernick situation is interesting, to say the least. It’s the coaches and owners who forced Kaepernick out of the league back in 2017 after kneeling for the national anthem during NFL games during the 2016 season. Yet, every same owner and coach is always asked what it will take for Kaepernick to see the field again, or does he deserve a shot? Kaepernick said himself recently he would welcome a backup role in the NFL. Many people don’t think that Kaepernick will see the field again, but because of his talent. One of those people against that notion: Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis.

Full quote via PFT via nbcsports.com:

“I believe in Colin Kaepernick,” Davis said. “He deserves every chance in the world to become a quarterback in the National Football League. I still stand by it. If our coaches and General Manager want to bring him in or want him to be the quarterback on this team, I would welcome him with open arms.”

His quote is interesting because looking at the Las Vegas Raiders’ current depth chart at quarterback is recently extended Derek Carr, Garrett Gilbert, and Nick Mullens. I guess if the Raiders were actually serious about bringing Colin Kaepernick in, if he performs well, he could land that backup role he claims he wants and gets it above Gilbert and Mullens. But that is to assume he would win it. We have seen him have multiple public workouts in hopes to get the call, but no one has come calling. Kaepernick also expects to start once he proves he’s worthy, but the extension of Carr shows they are invested in their guy, despite what some might think.

“I think Colin is a very misunderstood human being,” Davis said. “I’ve gotten a chance to talk to him. I never really knew Colin, and I didn’t understand him. I didn’t understand the kneeling, what that meant initially. Over time, I have learned a little bit more about it.”

Look, I don’t think it is a matter of him kneeling for the national anthem anymore. That is long gone. I firmly believe no one has come calling is because NFL teams think that Colin Kaepernick can’t cut it anymore. He obviously doesn’t think so, and if what Mark Davis is saying is true, why not go ahead and sign him and either prove Kaepernick wrong or turn out to be a genius.
