Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to join French giants PSG, according to Fabrizio Romano. He is set to sign a five-year contract with a four to five times higher salary than his current one.
PSG will reportedly dish out a transfer fee of €70 million ($71.8m) plus add-ons, a relative steal for one of the best players in Italy.
This move comes following a recent report that Kvaratskhelia informed Napoli manager Antonio Conte of his desire to leave the club this transfer window. Kvaratskhelia also wanted to leave this summer, but Napoli closed the door on his departure and attempted to convince him to remain at the club.
With his unrest at Napoli, both Liverpool and PSG began to swarm and Kvaratskhelia was rumored to be considering moves to both of these clubs. It was the Parisians, however, who have ultimately won the race to secure his signature.
This is a great signing for PSG. Following the drama that ensued with Kylian Mbappé‘s highly-publicized departure from the club last summer, Luis Enrique‘s side could use some additional firepower in attack. While Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué and Marco Asensio provide good attacking options, Kvaratskhelia will come in and immediately be one of PSG’s best and most important players going forward.
His dribbling and ball control is matched by very few in Europe, as is his ability to drive the ball into attacking positions. On top of his ability to beat his defender, he is also good at turning his dribbling and other offensive movements into chances. With 3.95 shots created per match, Kvaratskhelia ranks in the 99th percentile in this category when compared to other attacking midfielders and wingers. He also scores 0.33 non-penalty goals per match, another impressive stat.
PSG currently sits atop the Ligue 1 table but is struggling in Champions League, finding themselves out of knockout-round qualification through six games. Kvaratskhelia will be counted on to turn things around and help salvage a dismal Champions League campaign so far.
