Potential No. 1 Pick Kayvon Thibodeaux Launches Own Cryptocurrency

Uber talented defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux has launched his own cryptocurrency, as first reported by ESPN. The potential No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft, has missed time this season due to an injury sustained in the Oregon Ducks’ season-opener against Fresno State. Despite missing time on the field, Thibodeaux is continuing to make moves off of it.

With the advent of NIL, Thibodeaux was one of the first collegiate football players to capitalize on the numerous money-making opportunities at his disposal. The 20-year-old signed an exclusive deal with United Airlines earlier this summer, while also inking deals with two health and wellness companies, PlantFuel and Starface, and a private memorabilia contract.

Of his latest financial endeavor, Thibodeaux told ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura this:

“I feel like crypto is such a new space and having an athlete involve in it kind of changes the dynamic of how athletes are viewed,” Thibodeaux told ESPN. “I started looking at crypto in high school and seeing the future in crypto and how far it can go — this was the next step in starting my future.”

The Los Angeles native, is not the first Pac-12 athlete to launch his own cryptocurrency with Rally, a “digital economies platform.” Earlier this month, UCLA guard Jaylen Clark released his own coin called $JROCK.

Thibodeaux’s coin ($JREAM) will be traded exclusively on Rally’s website, with 20% of the release allocated to the Jream Foundation, an organization started by the Ducks star that provides assistant to disadvantaged youth. An initial 100,000 coins will be put into circulation, with an additional 21 million potentially circulated if the first release goes to plan. The value of the coin is expected to be less than a dollar, according to ESPN.
