Pierre-Luc Dubois Requests Trade From Jets
The Winnipeg Jets are screwed and it’s officially time to start over. It felt like only a matter of time before Pierre-Luc Dubois asked out and that day is finally here. An official trade request has been sent to the Jets. It’s going to be a fascinating offseason in Winnipeg.
“(Dubois is) not eligible to be (an unrestricted free agent) until next summer in 2024, but our understanding is that (agent) Pat Brisson has informed the Winnipeg Jets that his client isn’t inclined to sign an extension this summer,” TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported on Wednesday’s edition of “Insider Trading.”
“Brisson would like to work with the Winnipeg Jets on a trade for Dubois to another team.”
Also mentioned in the video, the Montreal Canadiens are his preferred destination. Dubois was born in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec, but grew up in Rimouski so it’s no real surprise that he wants to play for the Canadiens.
The players also know in the locker room that changes are coming. The current iteration of this team just isn’t good enough. Outside of Kyle Connor, it’s a team that’s incredibly flawed. Hey, at least the first round loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in five games doesn’t look so terrible!
Dubois, 24, was sent to the Jets via trade along with third-round pick in a deal that sent Patrik Laine & Jack Roslovic to the Blue Jackets in 2021. Now they’re going to be forced to move the third overall in 2016. Dubois isn’t the only name that likely will be traded either. We’ve already talked about Connor Hellebuyck. Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers may also be dealt.
