Colin Cowherd says he spurned massive LIV Golf offer
After the PGA Tour and LIV Golf merged, chaos ensued. With all the drama, television personality and sports analyst Colin Cowherd says he turned down a huge LIV Golf offer.
In a shocking turn of events, Cowherd thought of hopping on the bandwagon to the Saudi Arabia-based golf tour. It was revealed that Cowherd was offered a six-figure deal to join the LIV Golf tour before the merger.
“Listen, when I was offered a situation where there was a six-figure offer to one of my shows, and I would’ve been paid cause I have a revenue share with a couple different people,” Cowherd said.
“My takeaway was, I had known people with a connection to 9/11. I lived out east for 10 years and I was just like, ‘God, if they knew I took money from this, how would they think of me?’
“I decided, yeah, I just wasn’t comfortable with it. Now, if it would’ve been $10 million, I’d have probably taken it. $20 million? $30 million? So, I didn’t want to judge because I knew I felt bad about it. But we all have a price. Right?”
Cowherd later went onto say that LIV offered him six figures, a number which he would decline.
Controversy sparked around PGA Tour players and other fields in moving to the Saudi Arabia-based golf league, especially after 9/11. The families of victims and others connected to the tragedy stepped forward in protest and anger over the merger in the battle of morals. This includes 9/11 Families United, a group of families and survivors of the attacks, as they were shocked and almost disgusted with the move.
“The PGA and [commissioner Jay] Monahan appear to have become just more paid Saudi shills, taking billions of dollars to cleanse the Saudi reputation,” the group said.
