Massive layoffs are coming to Barstool Sports. However, it sounds like they would have been a hell of a lot worse if Dave Portnoy hadn’t taken back control of the company. KFC (AKA Kevin Clancy) claimed today on Barstool radio that Penn was planning to fire him and Feitelberg. If not fire, then it was only a matter of time before KFC Radio got axed from the company.
The full stream can be seen here.
KFC has been with Barstool forever. Him and Big Cat essentially joined the company around the same time. KFC is the top dog at Barstool in terms of the comedy landscape. They don’t really have anyone that’s similar to him. He’s a really good pure speaker that knows how to tell a story.
On the surface, it kinda of makes sense as to why Penn would have pushed them out the door. KFC Radio doesn’t do gambling – therefore… they’re not valuable for Penn. It’s also pretty obvious that Penn doesn’t have a clue what they were doing. Portnoy has taken Barstool back, but it is also a company that’s losing millions upon millions of dollars in its current state. That and they can’t even collect revenue by advertising sportsbooks anymore.
With Portnoy back in control, KFC is obviously safe. However, it’s worth wondering how crazy the layoffs would have gotten had Penn stayed in control. If KFC was going to be let go, what does that mean for the rest of the worthless employees who don’t show up on time?
