A few months back, I wrote about promising Zambian footballer Patson Daka and told you to remember the name. Well, it seems as if Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal took my advice as all three Premier League links with the Red Bull Salzburg striker during the current transfer window.
Daka scored 24 goals in 31 league games for Salzburg during their 2019-20 campaign and could be seen by both Liverpool and Arsenal as a potential replacement for stars on the move. For Liverpool, this is striker Sadio Mané, who has admitted a move away from Merseyside could happen as he continues to feel under-appreciated. He has been linked with a £90 million move to Barcelona.
For Arsenal, the rumors surrounding Alexandre Lacazette heading towards the exit door continue to grow, with Atletico Madrid being one destination mentioned. The French striker has fallen behind Eddie Nketiah in Mikel Arteta’s plans and may believe his future lies elsewhere. Should he depart, Arteta may see Patson Daka as a perfect replacement to partner with a pacy front line of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pépé, Nketiah, and Bukayo Saka.
Manchester United might be the most intriguing option as Daka would get to play with a young striker force that was one of the hottest in the Premier League in the second half of the season. United’s style on counter-attacking football would also suit the striker who has the pace to terrorize defenses, and what he could do with players like Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, and now Donny van de Beek would be frightening.
Valued at around £20 million, Daka could stay in Austria for another year or two and see his star continue to grow. However, if I were a betting man, I’d say place a bet he’s in the Premier League by the end of January 2021.
