Holy shit… It HAPPENED! The New England Patriots signed Cam Newton. At first, I thought it was one of those fake Adam Schefter Twitter accounts. NOPE… this is real. Cam Newton has signed a one-year contract with New England. Turns out all that Jarrett Stidham noise was bullshit, huh.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news. I still can’t believe this story actually came to fruition.
Newton, 31, will now join a QB room with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. I’ve talked about this a lot this offseason. Stidham can’t play. Not even a little. WTF are the Patriots doing? Well, here comes Cam. I’m so fascinated to see how Cam clashes with Belichick. Was there anything more annoying than the Stidham is good stories this offseason? All of them were bullshit and this just proves it.
The main question here is health. That’s what we should be talking about. Carolina moved on for a reason. Cam can’t stay on the field. He’s no longer reliable. For a team like the Patriots, this is a no brainer move. However, there’s no guarantee that he is or stays healthy. Newton has played in 2 games since the 2019 season.
This season is the ultimate experiment. How much of the Patriots success was Tom Brady and how much of it was Bill Belichick? Well, now Brady goes to the NFC South and Newton comes to the AFC East. God, I CANNOT WAIT for football season. I never would have guessed before the start of last year that Newton would end up being the Tom Brady replacement.
