Patriots Expected To Be Aggressive Players In The Tee Higgins Sweepstakes

The Patriots are desperate to land a capable wide receiver. They could have just drafted Ladd McConkey but found a way to screw that up too (that article in in progress). New England also went totally delulu mode in pursuit of Brandon Aiyuk. Luckily for them, he turned them down. Now they have their sights on Tee Higgins.

Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal has reported that the Patriots will be “heavily involved” in the Higgins sweepstakes.

Based on the way they acted with Aiyuk, this isn’t surprising at all. The only part that we don’t know yet is how the Bengals will handle this. If Cincinnati is smart, why not use the franchise tag again and force New England to trade for him? Based on how desperate they sound, I bet you they would give up some sort of premium asset they otherwise won’t get on the compensatory market. That’s how I would play this.

Higgins, 25, played 12 games this season and finished with 73 receptions for 911 yards and ten scores. The former Clemson product is second fiddle to Ja’Marr Chase right now but would likely become the number one on just about any other team he signs with. I’m sure the Bengals would love to keep him but Chase also needs to be paid too.

I’d argue regardless of what the Bengals do with Higgins, they won’t win anything until they fire Zac Taylor and replace him with someone who brings toughness out of this team but that’s another story for another day.
