It seems as if Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Patrick Peterson hasn’t learned from his past trash talk.
Earlier this year, the newly acquired Steelers cornerback told his All Things Covered Podcast that the 49ers offense had “tendencies” and he was extremely confident that he would get an interception on Brock Purdy.
“There’s some tell signs out there that tell us what plays we’re going to get from those guys in certain situations,” he said. “When I get my pick Sunday we’ll talk about it.”
The Steelers ended up losing that game 30-7 with Purdy going 19-for-29 for 220 yards, two touchdowns, one of which was on Peterson, without any interceptions. Christian McCaffrey ran for 152 yards and scored twice as well.
Now, Peterson has started more beef, this time with Ravens’ rookie sensation Zay Flowers. Peterson threw a backhanded compliment at Flowers ahead of Sunday’s matchup.
“He’s very shifty, very, very fast. He can get behind the defense. He’s kind of like the guy that can do it all for (them), run the screens, run the reverses, and still also run the big post as well,” Peterson said of Flowers, according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN.
“So it’s going to be fun trying to keep our eye on that fast, little munchkin there.”
Listed at 5-foot-9, Flowers isn’t a giant, but that hasn’t stopped him from making incredible plays. He has yet to have a breakout game, but he has shown flashes of greatness.
Even so, thus far, he leads the team in targets (29), receptions (24), and receiving yards (244). Flowers has proved to be worthy of the Ravens’ first-round pick so far.
Peterson signed a two-year, $14-million contract with the Steelers this offseason. The 33-year-old has one interception and five passes defended in four games this year.
Peterson may not be the premier corner he once was in Arizona, but he’s still a savvy veteran. However, I think he’s going to have trouble keeping up with the electric rookie out of Boston College.
