Patrick Mahomes Will Miss Few Weeks With Dislocated Knee Cap, No Ligament Damage

Patrick Mahomes is the golden child of the NFL. Unfortunately, we’re not going to be able to see him for a few weeks. The good news is that Mahomes did not suffer a season ending injury. The ligaments appear to be in good shape. Mahomes left Thurday Night’s game against the Broncos after dislocating his knee on a quarterback sneak. Patrick Mahomes was already limited with a high ankle sprain. Then his knee gave out on this sneak play. Who could have imagined a play like this would be the kryptonite for the Chiefs.

That play will end Mahomes season. The official diagnosis is a —. The news was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The MRI has confirmed the #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap, but not significant additional damage, sources tell me and @JamesPalmerTV. He’ll seek additional opinions to be sure. The plan is for him to return this season after a brief absence.

Here’s the thing I think we should acknowledge. Tom Brady QB sneaks all the time. He never gets hurt. In fact, I can’t remember a quarterback ever suffering a serious injury on a sneak. Maybe someone else does? Now, the high ankle sprain maybe made him susceptible to an injury? I’m not a doctor. However, I think it’s a little crazy if you’re pointing all of the blame on the play call.

To this point in the season, the Chiefs are 5-2. Matt Moore will now get the reigns of the offense. Moore, 35, has played for the Panthers, Dolphins, and now Chiefs in his NFL Career. Moore was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2007 by the Dallas Cowboys out of Oregon State. I think Moore’s defining moment in the NFL is when he got clubbed against the Steelers in the playoffs. Not so much for his on the field performance. Moore will try to keep the season afloat.

Mahomes recorded over 2,000 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 1 interception thus far this year. The former Texas Tech product was on pace to smash the single season passing yard record. He will have to wait another year to eclipse that record. One of the games brightest stars will some time. How much time remains to be seen. Still, it looks like Mahomes got the best case scenario. We wish you a speedy recovery, Patrick. Either way, the Madden Curse strikes again.
