As I said in the post about Tua, I’m sorry for not getting these out sooner but one man can only do so much. Jordan Love is now the highest-paid player in NFL history. No, I’m not making that up. After starting for one season and only really turning it on in the second half of the season, it’s Love who breaks the bank as the new highest-paid guy in the league.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:
If I may, I have my own personal thoughts to this deal. Keep in mind, this video was recorded before the news came out.
Somebody just has to say no. I don’t get it but we’ll keep things moving.
The full terms of the deal are… It’s a four-year, $220 million extension. $155 million guaranteed and a $75 million signing bonus. The AAV of $55 million is tied with Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence. The contract Love was set to play on this year remains in effect. This is also the link to the announcement from the Packers for those who want to see that.
This deal is going to be a fascinating one to watch play out. Can I just ask one question? If we inverted Love’s year where he starts out strong and fades down the stretch, does he get this deal? The answer is no and we both know it. We really have no evidence that Love is an elite quarterback. I guess we’re going to find out if this was the right thing to do or a massive mistake.
