Oh, No… Joe Burrow Has Small Hands

Joe Burrow has turned into everybody’s golden boy heading into the 2020 NFL Draft. One year wonder, can’t beat out Dwayne Haskins, golden boy. The Combine starts this week which means players are starting to get their measurments. Hand size has always been a big deal for quarterbacks and often indicates future NFL success. Russell Wilson and Drew Brees have huge hands for their size. Jared Goff… not so much. Joe Burrow has the exact same hand size Goff measured in at.

Kyler Murray is under 5-foot-10 and he has bigger hands than 6-foot-4 Joe Burrow. It’s a big deal. Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa hand size came in. CHECK.

It’s not quite the meat hooks that Russell Wilson has, but it’s close. For his size, Tua has big hands.

Look, maybe you don’t think it’s a big deal. You have to take everything into consideration. Especially when it gets cold and ball security matters. I want to include a portion of Tom’s article where he interviewed anonymous scouts.

“A year ago, the guy probably would’ve gone in the third or fourth round, and this year, all of a sudden, he’s Andrew Luck,” an AFC executive said of Burrow. “And the [2019 LSU team] was very, very, very talented around him.”

“Watch Eason, Love, Tua and Herbert throw three balls, then throw [Burrow] on last,” another AFC executive said. “It just looks different. It’s not pretty. But we all know there’s more to his position than that arm. Is he Alex Smith? Or is he gonna ever be better than that?”

Whoever this exec is, I think he’s 100 percent right. Burrow does not have a laser. It doesn’t always look pretty coming out. Maybe that hand size factors in. It’s not easy projecting Burrow to the NFL based on the year to year gap in production. That LSU team was loaded. How much of it was Joe Brady. There’s a lot of red flags here. Tua has to be the play… unless you’re not that smart.

UPDATE:

Tua’s left hand (the one he throws with) is actually bigger than previously reported number. Christmas keeps on giving.
