Nino Niederreiter Will Prove To Be An Underrated Pick Up By Nashville
I can promise you I watched a lot of Hurricanes hockey last year. Probably about 75 of them if I’m being totally honest. I can also promise you that Carolina is going to miss Nino Niederreiter more than they think they will. Niederreiter now gets an increased role in Nashville and he’s going to prove to be such an underrated pick up by Nashville who continues to keep itself relevant.
Nashville is already 2-0 to start the year after they beat the brakes off San Jose in the Prague series. Niederreiter had his name in the mix on the scorecards already. Nino has two goals already and is just in way more of a position to succeed offensively. Instead of being on that grinder third line in Carolina, Nino is getting a chance in the top six providing much needed offense next to Ryan Johanson.
In the site league, Niederreiter was already picked up. It may be too late for you as well. I just don’t think this Nashville team is going away. They get A-grade goaltending from Juuse Saros on a nightly basis. Roman Josi is a top-5 defensemen in the league. If Duchene, Johanson, and Granlund are going to produce offensively, then Nashville will continue to be in the playoff mix. It goes without saying that Nino is going to help this group. Ditto for Ryan McDonagh as that pairing with Mattias Ekholm is off to a great start.
After pocketing 24 goals on the third line a year ago in Carolina, there’s a good chance Nino has more in the tank with an increased role. Given the fast start, 30 doesn’t feel out of reach.
Credit to David Poile. Signing Nino Niederreiter to a two-year deal worth $8 million was such a no-brainer move any contender should have been willing to take. This front office just deserves credit for continuing to keep this team relevant and that should matter.
