Nick Chubb dedicating 2023 NFL season to Jim Brown

Cleveland Browns superstar running back Nick Chubb is dedicating his 2023 NFL Season to franchise legend Jim Brown. Chubb told Jake Trotter of ESPN that he will be “playing for” Brown this upcoming season.

Brown, one of the best running backs in NFL history, passed away at the age of 87 earlier this year.

“Being able to know him was definitely special,” Chubb said Wednesday. “Definitely a blessing. Being drafted here and playing after such a great running back was a blessing.”

Chubb also stated that former Browns General Manager John Dorsey told him that Brown helped convince Cleveland to him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Apparently, Brown was as good of a scout as he was a player.

“Just hearing that, it was a blessing,” Chubb said. “He saw something in me and it’s special.”

That selection has paid dividends for the Browns as Chubb has become the best running back in franchise history outside of Brown. In just five seasons, Chubb has run for 6,341 yards with 48 touchdowns and has been named a four-time Pro Bowler.

As much as Brown could have been an on-the-field mentor, he provided Chubb with even more important lessons off the field.

“The most impactful thing [he told me] is probably just stand for what you believe in,” Chubb said. “He was a strong man. He stood up a lot of things and he was himself. I think that’s the biggest thing I take from it. Just always be true to yourself.”

In 2023, Chubb will be entering his age-28 season. While it is certainly no guarantee, he should be a force to reckon with on the ground. In 2022, Chubb had a career-high 1,525 rushing yards while tying a career-high in touchdowns (12). It looks like he will have a little more to play for this season as well.
