We covered Shemar Stewart the other day. Now we’re doing his pass-rushing teammate, Nic Scourton.
NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 3, Week 5, Week 6, Week 9, Week 10, Week 14
Scourton, 20, checks in at 6-foot-3, 257. He got his start at Purdue after being a four star guy coming out of high school in the state of Texas. Purdue definitely doesn’t land many four star guys but they got their hands on one for a brief period of time before finishing up at Texas A&M.
The hype train was out of control before this past season started. Scourton notched ten sacks in 2023 with Purdue and then was basically the top ranked pass rusher in the transfer portal. All of the stock notes are there for you at the top. Support the site and read those links but if you’re feeling lazy, this was pretty much the theme – good player, no shot that’s an elite difference making player. Sometimes, I’d argue he wasn’t even a good player.
This past year, Scourton notched five sacks but actually had a lower pressure rate than Shemar Stewart who had 1.5 sacks. The level of competition certainly made a difference in the production from the year before. First-team All-SEC if you care about things like that. Again, good player, sure as hell not a first rounder.
The overall Combine performance didn’t help change my mind. He didn’t run and that pretty much confirms the slug mode thoughts I have on him. Definitely didn’t pass the smell test but you can read all my thoughts there on the prior link.
He’s a power player with heavy hands. Not overly long and not overly quick. Can pull out the occasional spin move but he’s not blowing anybody away athletically.
I have a middle round grade on Nic Scourton. I think he can be a rotational depth piece for someone, but I don’t see any high end starter stuff here. He’s more productive than his former teammate, Stewart, but still a goofball who disappointed every time I watched him this year against real competition.
