NFL Christmas Day Games To Be Streamed On Netflix

Netflix has acquired the rights to broadcast the NFL’s Christmas Day games starting in 2024 through the 2026 season.

“Last year, we decided to take a big bet on live, tapping into massive fandoms across comedy, reality TV, sports, and more,” Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria said in a statement. “There are no live annual events, sports or otherwise, that compare with the audiences NFL football attracts. We’re so excited that the NFL’s Christmas Day games will be only on Netflix.”

With the NFL schedule release, it was also announced that the two Christmas Day games Netflix will broadcast this season will be the Kansas City Chiefs at the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens at the Houston Texans.

Netflix has been stepping into the live broadcasts the past few months, including the recent Roast of Tom Brady. According to Ari Meirov, Netflix will be spending a bit less than $150 million per game on broadcasting rights.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be the first professional sports league to partner with Netflix to bring live games to fans around the world,” said Hans Schroeder, NFL Executive Vice President of Media Distribution. “The NFL on Christmas has become a tradition, and to partner with Netflix, a service whose biggest day of the year is typically this holiday, is the perfect combination to grow this event globally for NFL fans.”

Football fans are outraged at the fact that they will need to purchase another streaming service to watch the sport they love. The NFL has also sold broadcasting rights to Amazon Prime, Peacock and ESPN+.

Alongside broadcasting live events, Netflix has also stepped into the video games world. Having mobile games in the app without extra charge.
