Yankees promote top prospect Jasson Dominguez

The New York Yankees are recalling top outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the team announced Monday. It will be Dominguez’s first official call-up in New York in 2024 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery last September.

Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
• Recalled OF Jasson Domínguez (#89) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
• Returned INF Jon Berti (#19) from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 60-day injured list.

This promotion is just days after general manager Brian Cashman was coy with reporters regarding Dominguez dominating Triple-A and Alex Verdugo struggling mightily in the majors.

“The evaluations that we’re having with our field staff and player development staff, front office staff, is just what is going to give us the best chance to win,” Cashman said this weekend, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post. “As of right now, we’re staying pat with what we’ve got.

“[Verdugo]’s playing much better than he had been. Just comes down to, is that the best route to go? That’s how we’ve got it set up currently.”

In 44 Triple-A games this season, Dominguez has posted a .309/.368/.480 slash line–equating to a .848 OPS and 120 wRC+–with seven doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 25 RBIs.

Dominguez lit the baseball world on fire upon his call-up last season. he homered in his first career MLB at-bat and sported a .980 OPS in just eight games before injuring his elbow, ultimately ending his season. He was their 27th man in their Little League Classic in mid-August against Detroit, but wasn’t formally called up for any additional stints before Monday.
