Most Notable on New Music Friday, Song from the Creed III Soundtrack “Ma Boy” – JID & Lute

JID truly is invincible to releasing bad music on New Music Friday. In this catchy single from the Creed III soundtrack, JID is delivering a repetitive chorus line that includes “ma boy” in every sentence. There is a clear theme of brotherhood used along with the catchy phrase.

Both JID and Lute also bring amazing verses over a choir-like harmony. The verses are fitting to the theme as both include references to battles and struggles.

Great gym music to listen to when working out. This song should be exciting to hear in the movie over a training montage once it is released.

Most Notable Album on New Music Friday My 21st Century Blues – Raye

This is Raye’s first album after being in the industry since she was 17. Now 25 years old, she was finally able to release the album after eight years. Her previous label, Polydor, who she signed a four-album deal with did not allow her to release an album.

After becoming an independent artist, she immediately announced her album release My 21st Century Blues. In the album, she doesn’t waste any time talking about the struggles and pain the label trap has caused. It truly is powerful to hear HER music for once.

Love seeing this on New Music Friday, and I am sure this is just the start of Raye.

“Champions” – NLE Choppa

This new single from NLE Choppa sounds like it should be a part of the Creed soundtrack as well. Being released with a title such as “Champions,” it really fits in that category of prevailing in a battle or finding long-sought-after success. Make no mistake, the lyrics tell that is exactly what it is. This song could easily make your playlist as a motivational song in a gym music playlist but that’s really about it. However, it does contain a catchy chorus with NLE claiming to be a champion over some nice victory horns.

“Can’t Get This Right” – Russ

Classic Russ releasing breakup, sad, and love songs on New Music Friday. It works for him, however, so there really isn’t anything for him to fix. If you’re a Russ fan this is another good single to join your breakup playlist.

“Internet Trolls” – GloRilla

This is another song talking about independence and confidence in oneself. Specifically referencing to ignore the “internet trolls.” Basically, don’t listen to the haters because they have nothing better to do. She has clearly found her staple in the adlibs that open the song. Very recognizable to her specifically. Not my favorite out of the rest of New Music Friday but could see people listening to this.

“Highlife” – Logic

“Highlife” is … well, the song title speaks for itself: He is getting high. It’s a very melodic performance from Logic and the lyrics play over a very light and happy beat. Not his most lyrically impressive song, but it definitely has a smooth groove to it that encapsulates you.
