New Jersey Devils Acquire Timo Meier

It happened! The Swiss connection is real! Timo Meier is being shipped to New Jersey and will now team up with his Swiss country-man, Nico Hischier. Meier has long been a target of the Devils and our prediction seems to have come true. Meier is a Devil.

Give me fuel.

Give me fire.

Give me Timo Meier!!!

The news was first reported by Pierre LeBrun of the trash news network, The Athletic:

LeBrun later added that an extension is not part of the trade agreement.

Meier, 26, has 52 points in 57 games on a really bad Sharks team. 31 of which are goals as Meier has slowly transformed into one of the best scoring right wingers in hockey. He’s a perfect fit in New Jersey with either Jack Hughes or Hischier centering him 5 vs. 5.

This is a huge pick up for a young Devils team on the rise. New Jersey has 83 points in 59 games and sit in second place in the Metro behind Carolina. With the Meier pick up, can Jersey even potentially catch the Hurricanes and win the Metro? This is a huge statement by this organization that the championship window is now and totally wide open.

UPDATE:

We finally have the news on the return for the Sharks in the Meier trade. On the surface, it doesn’t appear to be a great one. The Devils found a way to hang onto all of their premium prospects such as Luke Hughes, Seamus Casey, Alexander Holtz, Simon Nemec, and even young gun Dawson Mercer.
