The Nets Are Ready To Blow Up Young Core To Add 3rd Star

It felt like only a matter of time before the NBA media started to dive into potential offseason moves. That day is finally here. With coronavirus tearing apart the world, we need something else to talk about in the sports world. In the latest edition of his Hoop Collective podcast, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said some interesting things. He believes that the Nets are ready to swing for the fences. They are going to try like hell to add a third superstar to the Kyrie Irving – Kevin Durant core.

“We could enter a healthy debate here about whether Caris LeVert is that third star, and they may make the decision that he is,” Windhorst said. “But my feel (from) reading the tea leaves, paying attention to what (general manager) Sean Marks has said, and also being aware of some conversations that they had at the trade deadline – which was some sticking the toe in the water on some things – I think that they are going to swing for the fences whenever the offseason comes.”

Caris LeVert feels like the line in the sand. Brooklyn has to decide if he’s the 3rd star. If he is, then the Nets will tinker with the roster and make some marginal improvements. If the Nets feel like LeVert isn’t it, Brooklyn will likely trade him and hunt for the 3rd star. Who that may be remains to be seen. All I we can do is guess for now.

When Kyrie was talking about the team, he noticeably left Joe Harris and Jarrett Allen off the list. It’s hard to ignore that. Spencer Dinwiddie feels like another logical trade candidate. Dinwiddie likely wants to start and he’s not going to get that chance with Irving on the same roster. He’s also entering the final year of his contract next year.

Who knows what the Nets are going to do. If nothing else, it indicates the Nets are going to be aggressive searching for their next star. That once young and fun team is going away fast. The pressure to bring a championship to Brooklyn is at the forefront.
