Netflix’s documentary series titled “Quarterback,” which will follow the past seasons of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota, is set to debut during the summer of 2023.
Executive producer Peyton Manning has been at the forefront of the project. He also played a big role in convincing the quarterbacks to be a part of the series. He even went as far as to fly to Kansas City to try and convince Mahomes in person.
The show plans to follow the journey of each quarterback throughout the season and the highs and lows each one went through. With the three quarterbacks chosen, there should be quite a variety in storylines.
Mariota got benched midway through the season for rookie Desmond Ridder, Cousins led the Vikings through a promising regular season only to be upset by the Giants, and Mahomes earned yet another MVP while also leading his team to another Super Bowl.
Seeing as all three of these guys had drastically different seasons, the storylines should be endless. I know we want to see what Mahomes does to make him the best, but I’m intrigued to see how Mariota dealt with being benched midway through the season or how Cousins deals with yet another season ending in disappointment.
Sure, we all love a feel-good story. But I also love watching people overcome obstacles and fight through adversity. Just makes it easier for me to root for you knowing you’ve had to overcome troubles in your life.
The NFL has to chance to truly make something great here. Playing quarterback is one of the most difficult positions in all sports. They are expected to do a lot on a weekly basis and oftentimes become the face of a franchise. It can be a lot to live up to and even be too much for some.
I definitely think this is something that can continue for some time if the NFL does it right. There are many different personalities and storylines that can be explored in the coming years, and will surely be something that the average fan will enjoy.
The NFL does a pretty good job when it comes to these kinds of things. So, I’m assuming that this will end up being a smashing success. But I suppose, as usual, only time will tell.
