Naz Reid wins 2023-24 Sixth Man of the Year award

In a very narrow final vote, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid has won the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award for the 2023-24 season, the league announced Wednesday.

Reid earned the award over Sacramento’s Malik Monk and Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis, the two other finalists for the award that were announced on Sunday.

The voting was airtight; it was really a two-man race between Reid and Monk. Reid finished with 45 first-place finishes to Monk’s 43 with the same amount of second-place (39) and third-place votes (10). Other players who received first-place votes were Portis (5), Los Angeles’ Norman Powell (2), and Atlanta’s Bogdan Bogdanovic (4).

Reid is the first player in franchise history to win the award and the third-ever undrafted player to win it, joining John Starks and Darrell Armstrong.

He averaged 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 81 regular season games, shooting 47.7 percent from the floor and a career-best 41.4 percent from 3-point range (5.0 attempts) this season. For his career, Reid, 24, is averaging 10.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks on 49.6/37.1/71.7 shooting splits.
