Bryan Bresse isn’t the only former mega Clemson recruit to enter the 2023 NFL Draft. Let’s also breakdown Myles Murphy (read Garrett’s Bresee post here). What should you know about Murphy as the 2023 NFL Draft inches closer? Let’s breakdown the Clemson pass rusher’s 2023 NFL Draft profile!
6-foot-5, 268 so the size is great. Former number seven prospect during the 2020 cycle. We don’t have any testing numbers which sucks outside of the bench press. The 25 rep number wasn’t surprising given the size and the skillset. Murphy is really good against the run and showed his power all year in that department.
Seven sacks for Muphy in 2021. Six and a half for him this past year. I’m not overly concerned about the sack production. To be honest; I think that’s kinda what he is. Will he be a consistent 12 sack guy in the NFL? Maybe but I wouldn’t count on it. Maybe this is another weird Trey brain thing but if I’m drafting today, I’d much rather take the shot on KJ Henry in the 4th round. He’s the smaller Murphy with less production. Maybe I’m crazy but both guys are very talented and one costs a lot less. You can’t miss where Murphy is being mocked.
He does kinda fall into that Travon Walker model a year ago. I just don’t think he’s nearly as twitched up or you would have saw it at the Combine. My projection for him is if Rashan Gary and Shaq Lawson had a baby. The important note is that it’s still very much a development story to be had here. Just 21 years old and he’s far from being a complete pass rusher at this time. Has a spin move but he’s not good at chaining moves together yet. If the raw athleticism doesn’t win then he usually doesn’t.
I have a second round grade on Myles Murphy. Think he will end up being a good player but not a stud first rounder like he’s being projected.
