If you have been reading the stock report notes, I’m quite sure you already know what I’m going to say here so this one won’t take forever. Let’s get right to the Montrell Johnson Jr 2025 NFL Draft profile because I have some things to say.
NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 4, Week 7, Week 13, Gasparilla Bowl, East-West (1), (3), (4)
I can’t continue with the profile without mentioning the elephant in the room. Jadan Baugh totally stole the job at Florida during the second half of the year. No question Baugh was the dude there at Johnson’s carries went to dust pretty quickly.
Johnson, a former three star guy out of New Orleans, had 100 carries this past year, which is a long way of saying he got his lunch money stolen by the freshman Baugh. It’s 52 less than he had the previous year and 55 fewer from the year before that.
Think the odd part here is that Johnson made a bit of a name for himself as a freshman with the Ragin Cajuns. Transfers to Florida and has a really nice sophomore year rushing for 841 yards and ten touchdowns at 5.4 yards per carry. Those 841 yards turned out to be a career high. He just never got better after that and then started seeing his role reduced as Florida gathered more talent.
The only part that surprised me during the predraft process was the fact that he ran faster than I thought he would at the Combine. The on-field portion of the workout was dull, which wasn’t a shock. However, his pure speed, he’s definitely not slow. Based on the way he played, I did not see that coming.
East-West week performance was a snoozefest. Has some size at 5-foot-11, 212 but beyond the plus speed I don’t see a ton of traits to cling onto. It’s definitely that faster than quick mode. Short areas making those RB cuts, I don’t see special. He does run with some power and falls forward on runs. A slug moves forward too. I don’t see MFer quality or any serious instincts to create on his own.
I have an undrafted grade on Johnson. I wouldn’t be totally shocked if someone picks him. Too much turd mode PTSD flashbacks to Dameon Pierce with this one.
