Mitch Trubisky Has to be the Starter for the Steelers, Here’s Why

Mitch Trubisky has to be the starter for the Steelers. Although Mike Tomlin has not made an official announcement yet, this tweet all but confirms it.

The Pittsburgh Steelers put out a tweet today listing their five team captains for the 2022 season. The list includes running back Najee Harris, special teams player Miles Killebrew, long-time defensive player Cam Heyward, 2021 defensive player of the year T.J. Watt, and Mitch Trubisky. Now, why would the Steelers name Trubisky a team captain if he wasn’t going to be their starting quarterback? That part just makes no sense at all. He just has to be the starter now, or else why would the team reveal he’s a captain? I expect Tomlin to make an announcement this week before Pittsburgh’s game against Cincinnati, but if he doesn’t, it should become very clear who the starting quarterback is if my suspicions are correct.

In my eyes, Trubisky should have been the starting quarterback all along. He played very well in the preseason behind a poor offensive line. The last thing the Steelers should do is throw Kenny Pickett into the fire of this crap offensive line — you don’t want to break him in his first season. There’s no need to rush this, let Pickett get comfortable and make the team around him better.

Trubisky is also an underrated athlete at the quarterback position. The Steelers can tap into the designed quarterback run game with him, he’s shown great ability to escape throughout the preseason and the ability to play well under pressure after his year as a backup in Buffalo.

Kenny Pickett may have more potential, but Mitch Trubisky just has to be the starter now. If he isn’t, I’ll declare Mike Tomlin the king of smoke screens.
