Williams Nwaneri didn’t last very long at Mizzou, huh. 38 total snaps later, Nwaneri is heading into the portal and is off to play for Matt Rhule at Nebraska. The former five star in the last cycle will now play for the Cornhuskers.
Max Olson over at ESPN had the following:
“Nebraska has landed a commitment from Missouri transfer defensive end Williams Nwaneri, a source confirmed to ESPN.”
Nwaneri, 6-foot-7, 255, reigns from Lee’s Summit North High School in Missouri. Staying close to home was a large reason why he chose Mizzou the first go around. The full scope of things remains unclear but he really didn’t do much as a true freshman. He had two tackles and a sack against UMass. That’s about all she wrote during his true freshman season.
Missouri had a tough year in general. To close 2023, they beat Ohio State in a bowl game. To close 2024, they’re 7th place in the SEC and just lost their star recruit from the previous cycle. We’re going to see what coach drink is made of in 2025 after his staff got raided this past year.
Nebraska did rank top-20 in scoring defense this past year. Nwaneri likely becomes a big part of the pass rush this season. That is as long as he shows up and performs. Matt Rhule has a track record. At Temple and Baylor, his programs really turned the corner in season number three. Nebraska went 6-6 this past year and Dylan Raiola got the freshman season out of the way. Maybe this will ultimately prove to be a wise landing spot.
