Mike Trout Believes Trade Is “Taking The Easy Way Out”
Longtime Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout believes asking for a trade is “taking the easy way out.”
Trout, 32, has been hailed as one of the best players in recent history and seen as the greatest Los Angeles Angel of all-time. Trout has won almost every single accolade in his career in Anaheim: three-time AL MVP, three-time All-MLB First Team, 11x All-Star, 2012 AL Rookie of the Year and more.
But Trout has yet to win the biggest prize in the game: a World Series.
Mike Trout signed a 12-year deal worth $426.5 million in 2019, cementing the rest of his career with the Angels.
“When I signed that contract, I’m loyal,” Trout told the media. “I want to win a championship here. The overall picture of winning a championship or getting to the playoffs here is bigger satisfaction than bailing out and just taking the easy way out. So I think that’s been my mindset. Maybe down the road, if some things change, but that’s been my mindset ever since the trade speculation came up.”
Throughout Mike Trout’s time in Anaheim, he has only made the playoffs once in the 2014 season, against the Kansas City Royals, which the Royals swept the Angels in three games.
Trout was also close to winning an actual championship, as he captained Team USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and helped the USA make it to the Championship game. Mike Trout and the US lost to Japan in the final, 3-2. Trout struck out against Shohei Ohtani at the final at-bat of the game.
Mike Trout and the Angels will start their Spring Training against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Feb, 24th.
