George Pickens notched 73 yards and a touchdown in the eventual win over the Bengals this past week. However, it came with two personal foul penalties at the same time. One was for taunting and the other one was for making finger guns after a catch. Mike Tomlin seems to be running out of patience with George Pickens in a hurry and continues to complain to the media about it.
“He’s just got to grow up, man,” Tomlin said. “This is an emotional game, man. These divisional games are big. He’s got a target on his back because he’s George, he understands that. But he’s got to grow up. He’s got to grow up in a hurry.”
By the way, this isn’t the first time Tomlin has called out Pickens to the media. My guess is it won’t be the last. I just think he should just look in the mirror. You’re either coaching it or allowing it to happen. Riding on your high horse won’t fix it. Maybe start by coaching the player and holding him to a standard of excellence. I guarantee Pickens wouldn’t act like this with Bill Belichick or Bill Parcells.
To me, that’s the biggest question. Pickens wouldn’t do these things if he respected Tomlin. Clearly he doesn’t. He wasn’t getting flagged like this at Georgia. I think a lot of this is on Tomlin for not correcting what bothers him. Crying to the media isn’t going to fix this.
