Is Kenny Pickett on the hot seat in Pittsburgh? It sure seems like it after what Mike Tomlin said. The Steelers are 6-3 but it doesn’t really feel like it. Especially if you watch the games and realize that they somehow have been outgained yardage wise in every single game.
Tomlin didn’t really sugarcoat it. The Steelers head coach says that Pickett simply needs to play better.
“Man, we’re gonna need more. Particularly as this road narrows,” Tomlin said of his quarterback, according to Noah Strackbein of Sports Illustrated.
Pittsburgh currently ranks 26th in points and 28th in yards per game. Not exactly ideal and it’s not like this team has nothing around him. George Pickens and Diontae Johnson should be good enough to put up respectable point totals. Of course, some of this is on Matt Canada. When Pickett is coming out and saying the team doesn’t have an identity, that’s on coaching.
Pickett, 25, has done a good job of limiting turnovers. That’s about the best thing you can say about the guy. The former Pitt product has four interceptions on the year but hasn’t thrown one since Week 4. That’s the number one thing he has going for him.
The defense is carrying once again with the Steelers. Pittsburgh has forced a league-leading 18 turnovers while allowing only 20.2 points per game. The offense just needs to be better. Let’s just not forget, that Tomlin deserves blame for that department. He didn’t make any changes and just brought Canada back. What did you expect to happen?
