Kenny Pickett: The Steelers Have No Offensive Identity
The Pittsburgh Steelers won their first game of the 2023-24 NFL Season on Monday Night over the Browns. They may not have won the game had Nick Chubb not gone down with a season-ending injury. The Steelers won the game 26-22 despite the fact that Pittsburgh had -7 yards of total offense in the fourth quarter. Starting quarterback Kenny Pickett has even acknowledged that Pittsburgh has zero identity on offense.
“We’ve got to find it. Clearly, we don’t have one,” Pickett said, via Dale Lolley of the team’s website. “It’s a team game, the ultimate team game. One guy does something wrong on a play as an offense, it usually doesn’t go your way. So, we’ve got to stay together. Don’t let the popcorn effect happen, which is one guy on each play.”
Give Pickett credit. He did a great job of acknowledging there is a problem without throwing the real problem under the bus. I just don’t understand how Mike Tomlin watched his football team last year and thought it was a good idea to bring back Matt Canada. It’s crazy that he’s still the offensive coordinator.
Pittsburgh has talent. The defense is really good. Tomlin has never had a losing season. We know what the problem is. You should be able to score points with two good backs, George Pickens, and Pat Freiermuth on offense. The numbers don’t lie here. The eye test doesn’t lie either. The Steelers never look creative under Canada.
