Mike Grier: Comments About Erik Karlsson Are Delusional

At this point, I’m pretty convinced that Mike Grier is the single dumbest human alive running a sports team today. Name any sport you want, I’m not sure anybody tops this guy. Grier is completely running the Sharks into the ground and I’m starting to feel bad for their fans.

The Sharks didn’t get anything for Brent Burns. They got 10 cents on the dollar for Timo Meier. The entire hockey world knew the Devils were cutting Mackenzie Blackwood prior to the Sharks jumping in and giving away a pick for no reason. I can keep going but I think most rational hockey fans understand what’s going on by now. This guy is totally clueless and doesn’t have what it takes to run a professional hockey team.

Every time Mike Grier opens his mouth I’m flabbergasted at the things he says. Just wait until you see his most recent comments about Erik Karlsson.

“It’s definitely tough to move out salary and we understand that. At some point, they’ll probably have to be a little bit of give on our side,” Grier said. “But if people think we’re going to eat 50% of (Karlsson’s) contract and all this type of stuff, it’s probably not going to happen.”

Why not, Grier was asked.

“Because it’s a lot of money,” he said.

Is this guy serious? He can’t be this stupid. ‘Because it’s a lot of money’? WTF does that even mean?

Mike Grier Proving To Be Incompetent With Sharks

Look around the league buddy. Nobody has cap space. Nobody wants Karlsson at $11.5 million over the next four years. Nobody even wants him at a $9 million AAV given the age, injury history, and term. Karlsson is coming off a season where he became the 4th defenseman ever to record a 100 point season. He also rightfully won the Norris Trophy.

NOW IS THE TIME TO TRADE KARLSSON!!!

Actually, it should have been done at the deadline but that’s another story for another day.

This shouldn’t be that hard. Retain the money and get the most assets you can. I can promise you the Sharks won’t be good four years from now either. This is so easy and if Grier doesn’t figure out that he’s delusional, the Sharks are going to be stuck with Karlsson for good.

It’s now or never to move Karlsson and Grier has proven he doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. The Sharks better recognize they don’t have the right guy in charge or it’s going to be a long, long, long rebuild.
