Microbrewery Tycoon Gameplay Review

I love homebrewing. For the better part of five years, I have brewed my own beer and mead from the comfort of my home. It can be an exhausting and tentative process, but it’s an easy Christmas present for family and a way to impress everyone. I would be lying if I said I never thought about pursuing a license and starting a brewery of some kind, but I do not have the financial backing to do such. But now everyone can live out their brewing fantasies with Microbrewery Tycoon.

Gameplay

There is nothing too exotic about the gameplay. It’s not like other tycoon games where a lot is happening on the screen. It’s menu after menu as you put together your ingredients to create your brew, assign jobs, take inventory, and make deliveries to stores across town to complete contracts. There are some quests that have some decent payout rewards, but they’re nothing complicated.

After a while, the process becomes pretty automated and you can sit back as your brewing company racks in the cash. It’s getting to that point that takes the longest. Searching ingredients, experimenting with combinations and finding the median between quality and cost take a little bit to figure out. But once you do, you’ve pretty much run to the end of the game.

The idea of Microbrewery Tycoon is fun, and Slava Victorov accomplishes its mission. It is a fun little game where everyone can fulfill their homebrewing fantasy. But unless this is something you’re REALLY interested in, it’s hard to recommend this game. I understand Microbrewery Tycoon is an indie title, but each game must be justified by the fun a person has and the general quality of the product. While the game is fun at first, within the same hour you will probably get bored and move on. If the devs can add more to the game in the future, it will definitely be something to come back to.

Verdict: 6.1
