The newest release “Heroes & Villains” by Metro Boomin is an immediate hit in the music industry with many labeling it “album of the year” — and it’s easy to see why. Metro has done it again after a four-year hiatus from his last album “Not All Heroes Wear Capes,” collaborating with an Avengers-esque team of rap and R&B stars including the likes of:
Although the pure star power contributed to its loving reception from fans, Metro Boomin certainly outperformed expectations with fresh instrumentals that seamlessly complement the collaborators. Unlike the disappointing earlier release “God Did” by DJ Khaled, the beats didn’t feel forced upon the rappers, and Metro has made it clear there is a level of chemistry that has allowed such success within these collaborations.
He has cemented his place at the top of the industry and only shows to progress and grow even more. He’s only going to further this notion as according to HYPEBEAST, Metro Boomin confirmed in an Apple Music interview that the newest album is only the second part in a three-part trilogy. This is exciting news as there is more to come for this young producer in the future.
Metro Boomin had by far some of the most creative ways of promoting “Heroes & Villains” of the year by the use of his six-minute short film directed by Gibson Hazard and his custom-made comic book covers.
The short film was released on Nov. 29, just three days before the album release date, leaving many fans with short cameos of features like Gunna and Young Thug in their makeshift P News studio. Meanwhile, the soundtrack of the film is a collective of his instrumentals from the album along with some of 21 Savage’s and Future’s vocals.
This combination, alongside the appearance and dialogue of Morgan Freeman, made this short film something we have never seen. YouTube user Arjun Gutta even commented “Metro Boomin is putting the artist back in artistry.”
Not only were there short cameos of features, but Metro periodically released custom made comic book covers. These covers displayed a superhero or villain like version of the respective feature along with a lyric from their songs.
In the end, it is these unique and creative methods that need to be implemented more as time goes on. Not only are fans interactive with the album after its release, but it is also part of the buildup which can help determine the success of an album. Ultimately, the industry needs to take a page out of Metro’s book to evolve and keep up with the more demanding and changing desires of fans in the future.
