It turns out that Mel Kiper might be sicker of Todd McShay than I am? In McShay’s latest mock draft, he listed Bijan Robinson as the Ravens pick for the 2023 NFL Draft. Kiper, of course, is a die hard Ravens fan and was not happy to see his hometown team take a running back in the first round of Todd’s mock.
“There’s no way you didn’t put Bijan Robinson just to aggravate me and Ravens fans,” Kiper said (Link includes full video to their exchange).
“If you’re right on this one, I will retire,” he said. “I can guarantee you that.”
This isn’t the first time Kiper has threatened to retire. Once upon a time, Kiper was so confident Jimmy Clausen that he also threatened to retire if the former Notre Dame quarterback didn’t make it. Kiper didn’t retire despite the fact that he clearly lost the bet on Clausen. Maybe Robinson going to Baltimore will be the true nail on the head.
We also know running back is not a need for the Ravens. JK Dobbins was really good in the second half of the year. Gus Edwards is also under contract. Baltimore ranked dead last in receiving yards (1,517 yards) and second to last in catches (124). If the Ravens are going to take someone in the first round on the offensive side of the ball, it for sure better not be a running back.
We have a long way to go before the 2023 NFL Draft is here. It remains to be seen who winds up taking the Texas running back, although I’m just not sure the modern NFL warrants any running back going in round one. Does Robinson walk on water? Otherwise, the days of a back going in the first round should be finished.
