Max Holloway Wants Mark Coleman To Present BMF Belt At UFC 300

At UFC 300, Max Holloway will fight Justin Gaethje for the BMF Belt. One of the traditions for the belt is to have a special guest wrap the belt around the winner. Holloway proposed that former UFC heavyweight champion Mark Coleman get the honor.

Coleman, 59, was recently hospitalized after saving his family in a house fire. The former champion woke up to his dog, Hammer, barking amid the fire. Coleman then pulled his mother and father out of the house before re-entering to save his dog. Unfortunately, he passed out due to smoke inhalation and was unable to save the dog. Coleman was put in an induced coma in intensive care before recovering from the incident.

Holloway spoke about why he wants Coleman to present the belt in an interview with Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie.

“The only correct answer is Mark Coleman,” Holloway said when asked who should wrap the belt around the winner’s waist. “Especially with what he went through recently, with his dog, and his dog waking him up to go save his family. He go in there and run for his dog. Guy is a G bro. That’s a real-life BMF. That’s the only right answer.”

In the first BMF title fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson wrapped the belt around the winning Masvidal. In the second fight, Masvidal returned the favor and put the belt around Gaethje after he knocked out Dustin Poirier.

Coleman represents the meaning of the BMF both inside and outside the octagon. As a fighter, he was the inaugural heavyweight champion, the first fighter to hold a belt, and was inducted into the pioneer wing of the UFC Hall of Fame. If that is not enough, Coleman’s time as a UFC champion was before the Unified Rules of MMA were in place. As for outside of the octagon, saving your parents from a BMF is the definition of being a BMF.

Max Holloway Plans to Fight at Featherweight and Lightweight

It is a real possibility that Coleman will be given the honor of presenting the belt to the winner of the BMF belt. On Instagram, he announced that the UFC gave him tickets to UFC 300. If ‘The Hammer’ is in the building, it does not take much to get him in the octagon to wrap the belt around the waist of Gaethje or Holloway.
