Is Luka Dončić getting chunky? Does Luka need to lose a few LBs? It sure sounds like the Mavericks want Luka to take his diet more seriously. Reports are surfacing that Dallas wants Luka at a lower playing weight for the 2023-24 NBA Season.
Tim Cato of The Athletic had the story (Do not click the link. It’s behind a paywall as all their trash content is. I’ll tell you the important stuff):
“The Mavericks’ key figures have talked to Dončić about decreasing his preferred playing weight this summer.”
Hey, Luka could always use the Zion excuse. It’s hard to be skinny when you’re rich – Zion. Although, I’m not sure you want to go that route and tank your career.
Luka is currently listed at 230. Who knows how accurate that is? There was a past ESPN story that suggested Luka was over 260. Then again, if you watch him play, it’s pretty obvious that Luka could become more slender or pack on more muscle mass. There is some early Nikola Jokic body stuff going on with Luka.
It’s scary to think Luka has another level to climb but it’s probably true. The Slovenian native averaged a career high 32.4 points last season. He also added 8.6 rebounds and eight assists while earning All-NBA honors for the fourth straight campaign.
The former third overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft will suit up for the Slovenian national team in the FIBA World Cup, which begins in late August. The Joker, who we mentioned previously, will not play in the event.
