It should be pretty clear that Matthew Stafford is going to FEAST with the Los Angeles Rams. I saw some Vegas odds for Stafford to win MVP next season, and it had him at +2000. That is absurdly low. This man was balling out in Detroit with virtually no help, throwing for over 4,000 yards in eight different seasons.
First, you’re giving Stafford a really solid receiving corps anchored by Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods. That’s a good start. Add in the Rams defense, which is up there with the best in the league. They will help put the ball in Stafford’s hands. The 33-year-old quarterback is going to have the best supporting cast he’s ever had.
The most obvious reason why Stafford should play at an MVP level this season is that he has Sean McVay as his head coach. McVay made Jared Goff a serviceable quarterback, and that guy has a ton of flaws in his game. McVay reportedly loves working with Stafford already. Considering that McVay is really good at using play-action and route design to disguise where the play is going, I don’t see how Stafford doesn’t thrive and throw for a ton of yards. Everything is in the right place for a Stafford MVP campaign and a season where the Rams contend for the Super Bowl.
